Teenagers arrested for reckless riding

KUCHING: Three teenagers were arrested for riding dangerously on their motorcycles during an eight-hour operation at Jalan FAC, Matang here.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the operations was conducted from 10pm on Saturday (Oct 10) until 6am the next day (Oct 11).

The suspects, aged between 17 and 19, were seen riding on their motorcycles while doing dangerous stunts.

“The first motorcyclist was seen performing a ‘wheelie’ (riding with the front wheel raised off the ground) at Jalan Matang Jaya-Bau heading towards the Kopodim traffic light and making a U-turn twice.

“The second one was seen performing a ‘superman’ (riding while lying on the seat with both legs lifted) at Jalan Matang Jaya-Bau heading towards the Kopodim traffic light once.

“The other motorcyclist was also seen performing the same action (superman) at a traffic light at Jalan Matang Jaya heading towards the Kopodim traffic light and back twice,” he said in a statement.

Alexson added that two of the suspects were arrested at the Jalan Matang Jaya traffic light while the other was arrested at the Kopodim traffic light.

All three suspects are now under lock-up at Siburan police station, and investigations will be made under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In the same operation, Alexson noted that the traffic police have inspected 15 motorcycles and 31 individuals, and issued 19 traffic summonses (Pol 257) for various traffic offences.
