Teens arrested for reckless, dangerous riding

KUCHING: Two youth were arrested for reckless and dangerous riding in an operations dubbed ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’.

Kuching deputy police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said the operations took place from 4.30pm on Saturday until 1am Sunday (Dec 13) at several locations.

The locations were Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhamad Salahuddin area, Jalan Bako, Jalan Gambier, Jalan Stadium, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman Yakuub and around Masja, Petra Jaya.

In the operations manned by Kuching Traffic Police team, the duo, aged 18 and 17, were arrested after they were spotted riding a motorcycle recklessly and dangerously near the entrance of Jalan Kampung Pulo Ulu, Petra Jaya.

“The team saw the male rider performing a dangerous stunt, ‘wheelie’, with his female pillion rider conspiring in the stunt.

“For such actions, the police team brought both individuals to the police station for further actions under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 111 of the same Act,” he said.

Merbin revealed in the same operations, the team issued a total of 32 traffic summonses for various traffic offences.

‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’ will continue to be implemented to detect drivers or riders who drive or ride recklessly and dangerously in an effort to reduce the rate of road accidents, especially fatal accidents, in the district.

Road users are reminded to always abide by the laws that have been set and the public can channel information of such activities in their respective areas.
