Telaga Air fire leaves 18 homeless

KUCHING: Eighteen people were left homeless after their houses at Jalan Matang, Kampung Telaga Air were razed to the ground Thursday night.

The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call at 11.44pm regarding the blaze.

Following the call, a team of firemen from Petra Jaya fire station were despatched to the scene.

The aftermath of the fire incident in Kampung Telaga Air that left 18 residents homeless on Thursday (Aug 6).

Fire operation commander PKPgB Azaharul Sahari said upon their arrival, the single-storey houses and two vehicles plus eight motorcycles, were completely destroyed.

The firemen proceeded to put out the fire and the operation ended at 1.41am.

He added that two occupants who sustained injuries on their wrists during the incident were treated by the emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) unit at scene.

The other residents were unharmed and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
