RELEVANT authorities are urged to prioritise efforts to improve road infrastructure connectivity around and linking to the sub-district in Long Bedian.

Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau said that this move is needed to provide a safe road system for locals to travel and access necessary government services from the sub-district.

“There is no good time with regard to the road condition. If it rains, it will be super slippery, and if it is a dry period, it will be super dusty, both posing great danger to road users,” he told the august House on Thursday (May 9).

He said that it is estimated that at least 200km of earth road and log bridges built by timber companies 30 years ago are the only lifeline around this sub-district office.

“I therefore urge the Sarawak government to immediately start taking concrete action on this requirement, as there are only six years remaining until the realisation of PCDS 2030.”

Dennis also extended his appreciation to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, especially the Ministry of Infrastructures and Port Development Sarawak under the leadership of Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, for responding to their request to come up with an immediate solution for the bad ex-logging road conditions in the three state constituencies in Ulu Baram.

“A special unit will be set up to work under the ‘Term Contract for Rural Road Maintenance.’ This brings great news to us, and we hope the rollout and implementation of this state initiative will commence soon.”

Meanwhile, on the long outstanding water bill issue in Long Lama, he hoped that relevant authorities will come up with a way to solve the matter.

“Despite several meetings held with the relevant authorities, this long-standing issue is still haunting our consumers in Long Lama. Monthly consumer bills issued still reflect a huge amount of unpaid water bills accumulated over the years.”
