Temple receives aid after fire

MUKAH:  The management committee of Mukah Tua Pek Kong temple here received financial aid from Tellian Service Centre today (March 5) after a fire damaged the temple’s rumah wakaf cum store on Thursday night.

Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo handed over a cheque amounting to RM10,000 to committee chairman Leong King Lee at the temple today.

Yussibnosh said what had happened was unexpected and hoped that the contribution would help lessen the burden of the committee.

“Hopefully, other individuals or organisations would come forward and chip in to help the committee,” he told the media.

The former Balingian assemblyman said he appreciated the effort of the committee in setting up the rumah wakaf, where remains are held prior to burial.

Penghulu Henry Lee Liong Ing, Kapitan Kang Boon Eong and Ting Siew Leong as well as other temple committee members were also present.

The fire which broke out at about 8.25pm on Thursday destroyed most of the temple’s rumah wakaf cum store.

No casualties were reported in the incident.
