MUKAH: Ten primary schools from Mukah District took part in an environmental workshop held, here, over the weekend.
Dubbed as `You, Me and Nature Workshop’, the event staged at SK Agama Majlis Islam Sarawak Mukah (SK Agama MIS), was officiated at by Mukah District Education Officer Salemah Chali.
Other participating schools besides the host, were SK Mukah, SK Datuk Awang Udin, SK Saint Patrick, SK Kuala Balingian, SK Sg. Bayan, SK Badengan, SK Kpg. Seberang, SK Dua Sungai and SK Kpg Petanak.
This district-level workshop was organised by SK Agama Environmental Club (PALS) in collaboration with the school’s Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) and Mukah District Education Office.
The facilitators were the personnel from Natural Resources and Environment Board(NREB) Sarawak Headquarters, NREB Mukah Office, and NREB Bintulu Office.
At the one-day programme which involved about 183 Primary Three and Four pupils, the guest of honour also officially launched the SK(A) MIS PALs club.
According to SK (A) MIS Co-curriculum Senior Assistant and PALs Club Advisor, Hartini Kipli, the club has been very active in implementing various activities since its establishment this year.
“This is the major stepping stone for us to inculcate and absorb the education on environment among the pupils, the citizen of the school and community at large though the club was just established this year,” she said.
The objectives of the workshop, among others, were to inculcate the spirit of tolerance, cooperation and unity among the participants of the programme, to educate and relay the message of the importance of appreciating the environment anfd extinct animals to the pupils, parents, school citizen as well as the local community, create awareness on the importance of preserving, maintaining and the sustainability of the environment for the future generations, and not least to realise the goal of forming the club, PALS.
