KUCHING: A total of RM1,730,000 was allocated to 10 schools throughout the state.

The presentation was graced by the Second Deputy Minister of Education Malaysia, Senator Datuk Chong Sin Woon held at Penview Hotel, yesterday.

In his speech, Chong said that the allocation should be used mainly for the school maintenance, repair works and renovations to give better comfort to students.

“Previously we have given more than RM12 million in a period of 2012 to 2016 to schools in Sarawak.

“I believe that with this assistance, the number of dilapidated schools in Sarawak can be decreased, whether in small or big number,” said Chong.

Five of the schools are in Sibu, namely SMK Tiong Hin, SMK Tung Hua, SMK Chung Hua, SMK Chung Cheng and SMK Kwong Hua while two more are in Meradong which are SMK Kai Chung and SMK Tong Hua.

The remainder three schools are located in Kuching, Sarikei and Miri namely SMK Kuching High, SMK Tinggi Sarikei and SMK Chung Hua respectively.
