KUCHING: The mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Datuk Wee Hong Seng has assured the public that the tender and draw processes for food and drink stalls, as well as trade and funfair booths, for the upcoming Kuching Food Festival 2023 were conducted in a transparent manner.

He emphasised that the highest bidders were awarded the tender bids for the double food stalls, drink stalls, and trade and funfair booths.

Speaking at a press conference held at the MBKS premises yesterday, Wee took the opportunity to stress that the Kuching Food Festival should be seen as a valuable asset benefiting Sarawak and the entire country.

The Kuching Food Festival 2023 will be held from July 28 to Aug 20.

He also clarified that a Sarawakian-owned Kuala Lumpur-based company would be participating in the food festival, dismissing any concerns raised in a social media post.

Wee pointed out that the festival, which has been running for 33 years, not only attracted local attendees but also visitors from abroad.

“The substantial investments made by the government and the council, not just in terms of financial support but also in terms of manpower and innovative ideas aimed at improving the festival each year,” he said.

He urged the public, including politicians and community representatives, to appreciate the festival’s significance and the hard work invested by the organisers.

“The council strives to make the festival a resounding success out of love for Sarawak. The festival serves as a platform for nurturing local talent, especially given the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years,” he added.

He reiterated his call for politicians to refrain from interfering in the festival and instead focus on their duty to serve the people as a whole, rather than solely their constituents.
