SIBU: The Sibu Division Men’s and Women’s Singles Open Table Tennis Championship 2018 came to a close at the Ping Pong Stadium here yesterday.
Teng Cheng Hong and Foo Sze Hui emerged champions in the Men’s and Women’s categories respectively. Teng received a cash prize of RM250 while Foo received RM200. Both also took home a trophy each.
In the Men’s category, Ling Kah Nge was second in position with Cody Ting Shi Hao, third.
For the Women’s category, Lee Ah Bee came in second with Sia Hsiao Ching, third.
For the Men’s Singles (category C) Bryan Ngu Zhu Kiet was first followed by Sunizam Uton, second and Helmy Hamzah, third.
For the Women’s Singles (category C) Su Siew Ling was first followed by Liong Jia En, second, and Eunice Chua, third.
Organised by Sibu Division Ping Pong Association, the event attracted 66 participants including those from Kuching, Sri Aman, Sarikei and Kota Samarahan.
The association’s chairman, Dr Clement Chen was present to grace the closing ceremony and presentation of prizes to the winners.
“This championship is aimed at establishing networking and foster closer relationship among table tennis players in the State.
“Besides, it is meant to promote fitness and healthy activities among the public through the game of table tennis, apart from promoting the game as an economical indoor sport,” said Dr Chen.
He also announced that the next tournament will be the state-level Non-Chinese Open and Veteran Open Table Tennis Championship, to be held at the same venue for two days on Sept 16-17.
