KUALA LUMPUR: The ivory-white baju kurung worn by Tengku Puteri Jihan Azizah ‘Athiyatullah at the coronation of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara today caught the attention of the guests, bringing back memories of her grandfather’s installation 35 years ago.

The youngest child of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, became the focus of cameramen who scrambled to take photos of her at the historic moment.

The baju kurung made of Dutch satin with French lace was what her mother Tunku Azizah wore when she attended the installation ceremony of her late father Almarhum Sultan Iskandar of Johor as the Eighth Yang di-Pertuan Agong in November 1984.

When met, Tengku Puteri Jihan, 17, told Bernama that she was proud and comfortable wearing her mother’s baju kurung.

“I feel proud. Mother said she bought the material in London and wore the dress when she was 23. It had to be loosened a little bit at the hips,” she said.
