KUCHING: Regiment 511 Askar Wataniah (Territorial Army) is adapting to the digital era with the recent launch of an online pre-register system named ‘511ONL’ to help Sarawakians register as young soldiers (perajurit muda).
The online system was launched by its commander Brigadier General Abang Mohamad Abang Marzuki last Monday after the opening ceremony of Voluntary Young Soldier (Perajurit Muda) Basic Course Series 2/2020 at Camp Ria, Mile 7 here.
The easy-to-use system serves to provide facilities for young Sarawakians to register as soldiers in the territorial army and applicants only need to answer several basic questions.
“In line with the digital era, the regiment hopes that Sarawakians will grab this opportunity.
“For now, the ‘511ONL’ link can be found on the Regiment 511 AW’s Facebook page and through QR Code,” he said.
The soft launch of the online system was held on Sept 15 and as of last Monday, there were already 138 applications.
Abang Mohamad explained that the course would be conducted continuously for one month.
It is the first course for new members of the territorial army and introduces participants to life as members of the military.
The course aims to provide basic military training to new recruits, to form and cultivate the foundation of discipline among the recruits, to train recruits to be responsible and loyal citizens of the country, and to foster a spirit of comradeship and teamwork among each other.
“Based on these (objectives), I hope the participants will work hard to gain as much knowledge as possible in one month,” said Abang Mohamad.
Also present at the opening ceremony of the basic course series was Regiment 511 Askar Wataniah deputy commander Lieutenant Colonel Mohd Nadzri Ismail.
