TFC start AFC Cup campaign with 1-0 win

KUALA NERUS: Terengganu FC’s (TFC) Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup campaign is off to a good start after they beat Central Coast Mariners 1-0 in their first Group G match last night.

Playing at their home ground of Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium, TFC went on the attack immediately after the kick off, but were made to wait till the first half injury time to secure their first and only goal of the match, when Mariners defender Nathan Paull deflected the ball into the back of his own net.

The score remained 1-0 till the end of the match.

In the other Group G match, Bali United trounced Stallion Laguna FC of the Philippines 5-2 away at Binan Football Stadium, Laguna, the Philippines.

Bali United’s goals came from Ilija Spasojević, who scored a brace in the 27th minute and 72nd minute, Haudi Abdillah (33rd minute), Mohammed Bassim (53rd), Muhammad Syamsuddin Rachmat (69th) while Stallion Laguna’s two goals were courtesy of Junior Ngong Sam in the 30th minute and Abraham Placito in the 88th minute.

Bali United now leads Group G, thanks to goal difference, while TFC, also with three points, are second, while Central Coast Mariners and Stallion Laguna FC are third and fourth respectively, with zero points.
