KUCHING: The giving out of free tickets by TGV Cinemas here to watch Captain Marvel movie is expected to receive good response from the public.

In connection with International Women’s Day (IWD), TGV Cinemas nationwide are giving free tickets on a first come first served basis to female moviegoers to watch Captain Marvel movie.

Claire Lee, 23, said that the gesture was a great idea of celebrating IWD as Captain Marvel is a super heroine and children in this generation look up to superhero in movies as their idol and inspiration.

“People are aware of this giveaway but it will make TGV Cinemas in Kuching congested when girls and women line up to redeem their free tickets,” she said.

She suggested that TGV come up with an online registration and limit to 50 movie goers per cinema so those who have the tickets can be admitted instead of queuing up and get disappointed when the free tickets are all given out.

Danish Hakeem, 20, said that TGV Cinemas are aware of the IWD celebration as it is seen as a focal point in the women’s rights movement.

“The significance of this celebration is to ensure that everyone would be fair to every girl and woman as it is has been recognised as a civil awareness day or in other words as anti sexism day and anti discrimination day,” he said.

He added that TGV Cinema’s intention of giving free movie tickets for the Captain Marvel movie is meant to raise awareness on everyone instead of just merely celebrating the day.

Nur Damia Abdul Halim, 21, said that it is an amazing idea as the day has a wider meaning than anyone could think of therefore it is certainly important that we all take a moment to appreciate all the women who have sacrificed and contributed to their families or society.

“Since IWD is coming up and Captain Marvel as the first Marvel movie with a female taking the lead role, I feel like it is a good symbolic gesture towards females in this city who do not get any recognition,” she said.

Charmine Michelle, 21, said that it is great and would make women feel more appreciated especially on IWD.

“On top of that, the movie is about empowering a woman. I also bet that there is going to be an “empowerment” going on among women on that day for the free tickets,” she said.

The redemption for the free Captain Marvel movie tickets will be held from 10am on March 8 and while stock lasts at TGV Cinemas, Kuching with the movie screening starting at 8pm.
