WHEN it comes to men’s fashion, the second half of 2019 is going to be dominated by two main themes: the growing influence of sportswear; and a shift towards more rustic, natural styles and patterns. “Colours are more important than ever, especially in sportswear,” says German fashion expert Sebastian Wolf.
And since there’s now a significant crossover between sportswear and everyday fashion, that applies to everyday clothing, too. Yellow, red and various shades of blue are among the most popular colours for late 2019, Wolf says.
If that’s too much for you, you can also try colours that are based on natural tones, but a little bit bolder – such as “strong shades of yellow, dark burnt orange, and brown.” Alternatively, you could opt for a splash of colour against a more neutral background – such as “a bright strip on a hood, or a coloured zipper,” Wolf says.
When it comes to fabrics, “glossy materials” are of the moment, says Patrick
Pendiuk from men’s magazine GQ. He also expects leather to make a comeback, with a used look and lambskin or fake fur collars.
The experts say down coats will be a must-have fashion item in late 2019 — one of the effects of the growing influence of sporty elements.
“They’re now available in generous cuts, but pulled in slightly at the waist,” reports Pendiuk. The “urban hiking” fashion trend also looks set to be huge.
“This trend thrives on exciting combinations such as flannel trousers with a knitted sweater and an outdoor jacket,” says Wolf.
Natural materials and patterns are also part of this trend: “Rustic laceup boots, but also sneakers made of felt or leather, and rustic knitted hats,” says Gerd MuellerThomkins form the German Fashion Institute. And as a finishing touch, consider a long scarf — perhaps even one that reaches right down to the ground. “They’re a real fashion statement,” says Pendiuk. – dpa
