KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia-based The Dance Company (TDC) has inked an agreement with the St Petersburg Theatre Russian Ballet to jointly organise the Asian World Premiere for the classic, original title “The Sleeping Beauty”.
This will be the legendary Russian Ballet’s first ever performance in Malaysia, and will also be the first “The Sleeping Beauty” performance in Asia.

The two-day show beginning Oct 12 will take place at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
TDC will bring “The Sleeping Beauty” by the world-renowned ballet troupe with a full team of 33 Russian ballet dancers to showcase their talent in executing the technically challenging choreography.

“The Sleeping Beauty” is a real masterpiece of the Russian Ballet that was choreographed by the iconic Marius Petipa.
The music is composed by the famous Russian composer, Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

“The Sleeping Beauty” in Malaysia continues the long and great tradition of Russian classical ballet from what most would consider of being the Russian ballet’s golden age and will be performed in its most original choreography.

Russian Centre of Science and Culture director, Dr Ayrat A. Akhmetov said: “I believe productions such as ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ by the St Petersburg Theatre Russian Ballet jointly organised by Malaysia’s The Dance Company enables our countries to build stronger ties with each other through the culture exchange.

“I am proud to witness the heritage of the Russian ballet shared with Asia through the Asian World Premiere of ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.” Tickets are available at TicketCharge. – Bernama
