KUCHING: The Spring shopping mall vaccination centre (PPV) will have the capacity to administer the Covid-19 vaccine to 900 individuals a day.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said today that the industrial sector PPV will start small with 400 vaccinations.

“For Spring, they will start small with 400 vaccinations tomorrow (June 25) but scale up fast to 900 vaccinations per day.

“I was told that other shopping malls like Merdeka, Boulevard, Sarawak Business Federation and few other companies had come together to make use of this facility.

“This will result in more than 8,000 people being vaccinated in this PPV in the next few days,” he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Dr Sim said a similar PPV at the Vivacity Megamall will be operational on Thursday to vaccinate its staff.

Earlier Wednesday, he visited the PPV at The Spring with the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) members to monitor its preparations for its first day of operation.

“The shopping mall PPV will implement strict conditions where vaccinations will be restricted to employees only and not for the public.

“The employer or shopping mall management will not charge their employee any money. All vaccinations are provided for free using the Sinovac vaccine as part of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP),” he said.

At the same time, Dr Sim also thanked the owners, employers and the management team for their corporate social responsibility (CSR) to their employees.

He said their effort in terms of playing their role and doing their part is a reflection of Sarawak’s solidarity and effort to curb Covid-19.
