MIRI: Police believed they have solved at least seven cases of theft with the arrest of a local man, aged 34.

The suspect is said to be the mastermind of an incident whereby a cash box machine was stolen from a 24 -hour convenience store on Wednesday morning.

He was detained on Friday afternoon (Sept 25) in connection with the case during a raid carried out by a task force team from Miri Criminal Investigation department (CID) led by Inspector Erwin Geoffry Ussan around 1.30pm at a house in Kampung Haji Waheed, here. Also detained during the raid was his girlfriend.

Police believed that the suspect had planned and masterminded the incident before instructing his henchman, a 27 year-suspect, to go inside the shop — he subsequently took away the cash box machine containing RM140 cash.

The henchman was apprehended by police on Wednesday night nearby the Visitor Information Centre at Jalan Padang.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.
