KUCHING: Team Dynamic Kuching (TDK) contributed 18 thermometers and 2,000 face masks to nine Chinese schools here to ensure the safety of students and teachers upon the reopening of schools soon.

Its team leader Eric Tay said that the recipients were Chung Hua Middle School No 1, 3, and 4, as well as Chung Hua Primary School No 1 to 6.

He said that although the contribution may be small, it was a token of appreciation towards schools of Chinese education.

“We hope that from what we are doing, we can encourage more people and donors to be more concerned about Chinese education,” he said at the handover ceremony at Chung Hua Middle School No 1 on Wednesday (June 17).

During the ceremony, Tay handed over the thermometers and face masks to Datuk Richard Wee, management committee chairman of Kuching Chung Hua Middle Schools No 1, 3 and 4.

Also present were Kuching Chung Hua Primary School No 1 to 6 Board of Management chairman Datuk Wong Tiong Hook and other representatives from the Chinese schools.

Wee, in his speech, thanked TDK for their contribution and noted that schools would reopen on June 24 for certain levels.

Tay added that Sarawakians should be proud of the their government for its support for Chinese education, pointing out that the late former Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem had provided grants for Chinese schools.

“Just last Tuesday as well, our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg gave a RM9 million grant for Chinese schools,” he said.

“We, as Sarawakians, should work together with the state government in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic,” he urged.

He said that TDK was established based on community and has been engaging in social work and helping those who are in need.
