MIRI: It could be that they were over-confident or just plain dumb, but a group of thieves here got themselves into big trouble by posting their loot on Facebook.

They thought by doing so they would attract buyers for 38 pieces of belian wood that they stole from near Pulau Melayu old bridge in Piasau.

They even had the cheek to post a phone number for buyers to contact them.

It ended up badly for them, of course, because the theft was discovered last Monday evening after all three thieves were arrested.

One ‘buyer’ realised that the items were stolen from near the old bridge a few days prior, so he lodged a police report.

A police team raided an unnumbered house behind Tamu Piasau Utara and detained all three suspects aged 30, 38 and 39. They also recovered the stolen timber.

The theft is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
