Third crash in Selangau stretch; driver slightly hurt

SELANGAU: A driver sustained minor injuries in a car crash along Mile 36, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu, yesterday (June 6).

The accident happened around 10pm when the car skidded and crashed into a concrete road divider in the middle of the road

Fortunately, the driver whose identity was not disclosed, escaped with only minor injuries and was subsequently rushed to Sibu Hospital by a friend for treatment.

This latest accident is the third in the past two days in Selangau, highlighting safety concerns on this stretch of road.

The previous accidents claimed the lives of seven people including a two-year-old toddler.

On Monday (June 5), a devastating collision between a Perodua Myvi and Kia Sportage along Mile 40, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu, resulted in the deaths of five people and seriously injured five others.

The next day, a tanker rear-ended a Proton Saga car along Mile 31, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu. Two elderly women were killed and another elderly woman seriously injured.

All of the injured victims are still receiving treatment at hospitals and clinics.

In view of this, Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang called on the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak to install more road signs along all sections of the Pan Borneo Highway project.

He pointed out that there should also be clear indications on which road sections are available for use.
