KUCHING: University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) lecturer Farizal Mohd Razalli also said the Education Ministry should undertake a rigorous and thorough study  before abolishing the current secondary school streaming system.

Commenting on the Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik’s announcement to abolish the secondary school streaming system for Form Four students next year, Farizal said, “The idea is good. However, my concern is that the minister is pushing for it hastily.

“This will end up being a political move rather than a substantive move by Maszlee. Education should not be politicized but substantiated.”

Farizal suggested the ministry commission commission    research teams to undertake a rigorous and thorough study on this matter.

“This research can be done within six months by experts and professionals.

“This is because the planned change affects not only the secondary level but, right from the primary until the university level,” he said.

On Oct 14, while on a working visit to Germany Dr Maszlee  said he would push for the end of subject streaming next year after students received their Form Three Assessment (PT3) results.
