KUCHING: Three teenagers were nearly drowned when their boat sank.

This unfortunate incident was due to the rising waves at Sungai Prima Bintawa, here on Thursday (Oct 1).

According to State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the operations centre received a distress call at 1.09pm on the occurrence.

The victims were identified as Mohd Shafazlie Mohd Norman, 15, Aminul Rashid Arman, 16, and Mohd Azreen Iswaini Arriffin, 18.

“It was reported that the boat sank followed by rising waves from another boat passing by.

“Following the call, Tabuan Jaya fire station immediately despatched its assets to the scene and a search and rescue (SAR) operation was immediately launched,” the statement said.

Then, a call was received from an individual who stated that the victims were found and rescued by a fishing boat that was passing by the location.

“The victims were then taken to the riverbank of Kampung Bintawa before Bomba arrived.

“The rescuers then inspected and examined the condition of all victims before heading back to the station,” the statement continued.
