BALINGIAN: Mukah police arrested three local men for their involvement in illegal cockfighting here on Sunday amid the movement control order (MCO).

The arrest was the second in a space of less than a week — the first arrest was on last Tuesday.

A team led by Insp Ebeni Mohamad conducted the raid at Sungai Arif at 3.50pm.

The trio aged between 47 and 49 were brought to Mukah district police headquarters for further investigation.

The police also seized one live rooster, two carcasses, four plastic chairs, a piece of canvas, one spur and cash of various denominations amounting to RM185.

Mukah district police chief DSP Jimmy Panyau said the case was being investigated under Section 3 (1) of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance 1962 and Section 11 (1) of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) 2020.

“The people are reminded to stay at home during the MCO and not get involved in illegal activities such as cockfighting.

“The police will take stern action against anyone defying the MCO,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
