SIBU: Three individuals are currently in police custody for allegedly breaking into a goldsmith shop at Jalan Market and stealing an assortment of jewellery worth RM57,000.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said that the police are also on a lookout for a fourth suspect.

The theft was suspected to have occurred between 5pm on Thursday (Sept 24) and 8.30am the next day.

“Based on closed circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained from the premises, it is believed that the suspects entered the premises from its rooftop by drilling a hole.

“The 59-year-old goldsmith immediately lodged a police report after realising that the premises was broken into the next day (Friday),” he said in a statement.

Following the report, a police team sprang into action to track down the suspects, who were arrested in a budget hotel at Jalan Wong Nai Siong.

Stanley said that the suspects — a 33-year-old woman, a 37-year-old lorry attendant and a 40-year-old lorry driver — were found with a bag filled with the stolen jewelleries.
