Sibu marine police foiled three attempts by three local men to transport over 30,000 litres of diesel at separate locations last Tuesday.

SIBU: The marine police here thwarted three locals’ attempt to transport over 30,000 litres of diesel using three vehicles last Tuesday (Aug 16).

Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the operation codenamed ‘Ops Kontraban’, was held at three different locations from 6am to 8.30am.

The male suspects aged between 28 and 42, were detained for inspections while driving their vehicles – a van, a one-ton lorry and a tanker.

“Overall, all three suspects have been transporting a total of 31,700 litres of diesel, which are believed to be obtained illegally.

“Further inspections to the vehicles found that there had been modifications of the external oil filling tank to an iron tank inside the vehicle,” he said.

Zulkipli added that the suspects were taken to Sibu Marine Police headquarters along with the seizures valued around RM378,155.

Both the arrests and seizures have been handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sibu Division for further action under Control of Supplies Act 1961.
