Three districts affected by floods

MIRI: Heavy downpour in most parts in the Northern Region during the weekend has affected 43 areas and 19 schools in three districts.

According to Miri Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Captain (PA) Usman Harto, the three districts are Beluru, Telang Usan and Marudi.

The water level of most rivers in these areas have increased in the past few days following heavy rain, while some remained the same on Sunday as at 10am (July 18).

In Marudi and Beluru, the water level was flowing above the danger mark, reaching 3.35m to 6m.

Two roads heading towards Kampung Matik and Jalan Sungai Mesau have been inundated and made impassable.

In addition, no evacuation shelters were opened.

Meanwhile in Long Lama, an evacuation shelter at Masjid Darusalam, which was opened on July 16 and housed 26 evacuees from four families, has been closed on Sunday (July 18).
