Three drug abusers in Bau nabbed

KUCHING: A total of three men in Bau were arrested by the police for drug abuse.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the arrests were made at two locations – Kampung Tasik Biru and Bau town.

He said from checks made at an unnumbered house at the first location on Dec 31, four individuals were detained and from the total, one was found positive for drugs.

“From preliminary investigations, the suspect has admitted to taking drugs before meeting up with the other three,” he said in a statement today.

He said the unemployed 25-year-old man from Kampung Tembawang Bau will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Poge said the two other suspects were detained at the second location later at night on the same day.

“Two men were requested to step out of a car and one surrendered a paper box containing a transparent bag with white crystals believed to be methamphetamine.

“Both men admitted to have taken drugs before and from urine tests, both were found positive for drugs,” he said.

Both men will be investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He said one of the suspects were found to have a prior criminal record and that the case under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 will be remanded.

Poge assured that the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) will continue to carry out checks at areas in Bau town as well as villages from time to time.

“These are on areas where we suspect there are drug abuse to put a stop to activity before it gets worse,” he said.
