BAU: Police arrested three jobless men for allegedly engaging in drug abuse activities in a house at Kampung Tasik Biru here yesterday (Oct 2).

Acting on information, a narcotics police team raided the hut around 10am and detained the men. One of them, a 23-year-old, tried to escape from the scene but his attempt was short-lived as the police quickly apprehended him.

District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon, who confirmed the case, said the other two suspects aged 26 and 35 years, were detained inside the house.

“The suspect who attempted to escape, was found to be in a state of agitation and bodily inspections found a plastic packet containing crystalline lumps believed to be syabu, weighing around 0.13g.

“Inspections on the other two suspects found nothing illegal on them.

“All three suspects and the seized drugs were brought to the police station for further action,” he said.

The trio also tested positive for drugs.

Poge added that the suspects will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 12 (2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Investigations found that the suspects were abusing drugs due to peer influence and their supplies were obtained from friends.

He assured that Bau narcotics police would continue to conduct inspections from time to time around Bau town, villages or in suspected drug dens, in their efforts to eradicate and fully curb such activities in the district.
