Three election offences reported to police

KUCHING: Sarawak police have received three reports from pertaining to election offences committed in Sarikei and Kuching districts yesterday.

A police spokesman for the 15th general election (GE15), Supt Douglas Nyeging Taong in a statement, said the police report received in Sarikei, was regarding an act of mischief.

The report claimed that a political party’s flag was vandalized there and the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing loss or damage to another individual’s property.

“In Kuching, we received two police reports from the Kuching South City Council (MBKS). The first (one) is regarding the act of taking down four banners for violating the conditions and regulations that have been set at Jalan Padungan.

“The second report was pertaining to the act of uprooting flags of a political party at Jalan Kampung Gersik as it was installed in an area where the party did not contest.

“Both of these cases are referred to the Election Commission (EC) for further action,” he said.

Nyeging added that as of Nov 8, Sarawak police have approved a total of 146 permits for political parties to hold their campaigning and political talks throughout the state.

All political parties contesting in GE15, are advised to abide by the laws that are set in place throughout the election period.
