Three fall victims to scams

KUCHING: Three persons were cheated, two in Macau scam and one in parcel scam in a report made on Thursday.

  In the first case, an enforcement personel, aged 51, lost RM112,000 after being told that her account was used for illegal transaction through credit card transaction.

Although she denied having such a credit card, she was warned that her career will suffer if she did not do as advised. The victim then banked in the cash to accounts provided by the suspects after being told that once the case was cleared, they would return her the cash.

In Miri, a 25-year-old girl working in a pharmacy lost RM16,000 after receiving a call from a man with the number  013-xxxxxxx who introduced himself as Halim from MACC.

He alleged that the victim had cases of money laundering and put her to several persons to explain the cases to her.

The victim was ordered to transfer money amountint to RM16,100 via RHB’s online internet to Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia’s account in the name of Mohd Salim Bin Abdullah for financial protection for 24 hours of audit time. On the same day the victim transferred money to the account twice.

After banking in, she realised something was not right and lodged a police report.

In Miri, a 41-year-old cleaner not only lost her trust in human but also lost RM2,000 of her hard-earned money to scammers.

The victim said she got a SMS on November 13 from a Mark Williams who claimed to be from UK. The suspect claimed that he banked in RM53,852 into the victim’s Bank Islam account and in the photo stated that the sender was Mark William.

She asked why the money was banked into her child’s account and was told that it was a gift but she must make a payment of RM2,950.

On 13 Nov 2018 the victim made a cash payment using a cash machine at Public Bank Pelita Commerical amounting to RM2,000 to the Public Bank’s account of nominee Julina Juliet Ak Jiwel.

When the victim informed that the payment was made, the unidentified male asked him to put in another RM5,000 cash.The victim felt cheated and lodged a police report.

Six others, three from Sibu, two from Miri and one from Bintulu avoided being cheated.
