MIRI: Three fishermen from Kampung Piasau Utara here endured a harrowing four-day ordeal at sea, surviving on rainwater and prayers before being rescued early Saturday morning (July 22).

Annuar Amin, Zaidi Nawi and Junaidi@John Nyami set sail from the Kampung Piasau Utara jetty on the morning of July 18 but were struck by strong waves that left their fishing boat adrift.

Anxiously awaiting news, Norma Tawau, Annuar’s wife, expressed her relief and joy upon hearing about the successful rescue.

When met on Monday (July 24), Norma related that her husband told her that they had to ration raw instant noodles and “relied on rainwater collected in two empty bottles to stay alive.”

The miraculous rescue occurred when offshore workers at Helang Platform spotted the trio floating inside two bright orange ice boxes, approximately 32.5 nautical miles northwest off Kuala Baram around 10.15am.

After their arduous journey, Zaidi and Junaidi were discharged from Miri Hospital but Annuar is still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
