Three killed as 4WD plunges into pond

SIBU: Three people were killed when the four-wheel-drive vehicle they in veered off a hill and plunged into a pond.

A five-year-old boy was among the casualties in the mishap which occurred at  Mile 69 on the Simpang Pelugau-Tatau Road.

A State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson said the child, only known as Hidayat and believed to be of Indonesian nationality, was in the company of Dominic Serang, 33, and Robin Kehing, 34.

An emergency response team from the Tatau Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 1.18pm.

According to Bomba they had to subsequently winch the vehicle out of the pond.

“The child was found inside the vehicle and was confirmed to have passed away,” he said.

The team thereafter initiated a search and found the other two victims in the pond.
