MUKAH: An evening inferno engulfed a double-storey house in Kampung Lintang Balingian and left three tenants with nothing but clothes on their backs last night (Dec 3).

The tenants aged between 64 and 80, who escaped the 7pm incident without injuries, are currently staying with their relatives temporarily.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Mukah station as well as Balingian auxiliary firemen were promptly despatched to the scene after receiving a distress call.

It was reported that Balingian auxiliary firemen managed to control the fire from spreading to two adjacent houses and they brought it under control around 7.50pm.

The team assisted by the locals, carried out cooling technique with water sourced from a fire hydrant nearby to control the flames.

Firemen from Mukah station who arrived at the scene around 8.35pm, took over the scene to ensure that the fire remnants are completely extinguished.

After ensuring the situation is safe, the team wrapped up the operation at 9.35pm and departed back to their stations.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
