Three longhouses in Tatau upgraded

Date:

TATAU: Three longhouses here are being upgraded with proper, stronger materials under the Sarawak Poor Housing Improvement Project.

The longhouses are Rumah Robert Ahsoon at Sungai Empang, Rumah Gerry Janni at Sungai Mejau and Rumah Was at Sungai Entajum.

“This is so that the longhouse folk can live comfortably,” said Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Native Laws and Customs), Datuk John Sikie Tayai.

“To all committee members and tuai rumah, please ensure that these projects go smoothly and send pictures so that we can see how the work progresses,” he said.

Sikie, who is also Kakus incumbent assemblyman, gave the advice after visiting the three longhouses to observe the progress of work done by the longhouse residents recently.

His visit was also to ensure the construction materials for the longhouses were up to standards and specifications.

“I commend the residents of Rumah Was for their fast work to replace their roofs.

“When the building materials have arrived, go ahead and do the work fast so that the project will not be delayed,” he said.

Sikie added that the longhouses were given funds for the upgrading work.

Rumah Was received RM107,500 for the project and another RM100,000 for upgrading the road entrance to the longhouse. Rumah Gerry received RM50,000 while Rumah Robert Ahsoon received RM67,500,

The three tuai rumah thanked the state government for the fund.

Accompanying Sikie on the visits were Tatau District Pemanca Gerosen Jubin and Penghulu Lubon Kinchang.
