MIRI: Three local men, including two siblings, were arrested in three separate police raids in Bekenu near here, yesterday morning for illegal possession of firearms.

Miri District Deputy Police chief, Superintendent Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the trio, aged between 45 and 60, were detained by a CID team from Miri District Police Headquarters following a tipoff.

He said two siblings were detained in two separate raids in Kampung Subak in Bekenu at 7.15am while the third suspect was picked up in Kampung Kejabil at 8.00am.

“A total of five shotguns, believed to be homemade, 44 cartridges and an empty cartridge were seized from the suspects,” he said.

Stanley said police were still investigating the suspects’ motives for possessing the firearms.
