Three months in prison for drug abuse

KUCHING: A 26-year-old woman was sentenced to three months imprisonment, in default a RM2,900 fine, by the Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (Oct 27) for drug abuse.

Norashikin from Kampung Tabuan Melayu pleaded guilty after the charge was read by an interpreter in front of magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

The court also ordered her to be under supervision for two years after serving her sentence.

She was charged after tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division Office here.

She was found to have taken the illicit substance at about 2.45pm on March 15, 2019.

The accused was charged under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and can be punished under Section 15(1) of the same Act if convicted.

According to the facts of the case, narcotics police arrested the accused in a raid on suspicion of being involved in drug abuse.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin requested the court to impose a heavy sentence on the accused as a lesson.
