SIBU: Three Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) staff, stationed at the council depot here, tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday.

SMC chairman Clarence Ting, in a statement today, said the infection originated from one of the staff who was confirmed positive for Covid-19 last Saturday.

Following that, all SMC staff at the depot were instructed to undergo Covid-19 swab tests on Sunday and Monday.

“The results of the tests found that three of our staff from the Engineering and Public Health and Civil Services divisions stationed at the depot for road maintenance, cleaning and dog catching activities tested positive for Covid-19.

“In this regard, the two divisions located on the 20th and 22nd floors of Wisma Sanyan will be closed to the public effective today until February 5 as an additional preventive measure to facilitate sanitisation work as well as close contact detection,” he added in the statement today.

Ting also instructed all personnel from the two divisions and individuals who have had close contact with the three employees to be swab tested immediately.
