Three new clusters declared

KUCHING: The State Health Department has identified three new clusters in Pusa, Miri, and Betong districts.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement yesterday said the cluster in Pusa was named Kampung Hilir Beladin Cluster whilst the cluster in Miri was named Jalan Limbang Cluster, and the cluster in Betong was named Penurin Cluster.

“The Kampung Hilir Beladin Cluster is a community cluster that was detected in the village areas due to religious activities being carried out.

“The case index of this cluster is case no. 31,697 who is a 67-year-old local man who was detected through symptomatic individual screening at a health facility.

“The case was found positive after his RTK Antigen screening on Apr 30 and was then referred to Sarawak General Hospital before he was confirmed positive through a rt-PCR test on May 2,” it said.

A total of 435 individuals were screened out of whom 46 were detected positive including the index, 43 negatives, and another 246 were still awaiting test results.

“All of the positive cases were admitted to Betong Hospital as well as the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Betong for isolation and further treatment,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Jalan Limbang Cluster in Miri is also a community cluster involving a worship place in that area.

“The case of this cluster is case no 31,820 involving a 67-year-old local man who was detected through symptomatic screening on Apr 30.

“A comprehensive surveillance activity was carried out at the worship place as there was close interaction among the committee members of the said place,” it said.

Through active case detection (ACD) screening on the close contacts and social contacts, a total of 108 individuals were screened where 18 of them were tested positive including the index case, two cases negative, and another 88 were still awaiting for test results.

The Penurin Cluster was a cluster that was detected in a longhouse in the Betong district.

The said case of this cluster is case no. 31,248 involving a 49-year-old local man who was detected through pre-surgical screening at a health facility in Kuching district.

“The case was found positive on May 1 through rt-PCR screening. Hence, active case detection screenings on family members and social contacts were made.

“A total of 185 individuals were screened where 23 of them were found positive including the index case, 160 negative, and another two were still awaiting test results,” it mentioned.

The committee also added that all the positive cases related to the Penurin Cluster were admitted to PKRC Betong for further treatment and isolation.

On another note, the committee had announced the end of two clusters namely Gelong Cluster in Kapit, and Jalan Gridbid Cluster in Miri after recording zero number of cases in the past 28 days.

Pertaining to the addition and the end of clusters, the state has now a total of 77 active clusters left where 15 of them had recorded an increase of 134 in the number of new cases and the other 62 clusters had zero new number of cases.
