KUCHING: The Sarawak Health Department declared three new clusters today (June 19), namely the Mongkos 2 cluster in Tebedu, the Tebakang Dayak cluster in Serian and the Sungai Banun cluster in Meradong.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the Mongkos 2 cluster was a community cluster involving a settlement at Kampung Mongkos, Tebedu.

“This is the second cluster incident involving the same locality.  The first cluster with 56 positive cases ended on June 14 after no new cases were detected in the 28-day period from the date of the last case reported,” it said in a statement today (Saturday).

SDMC said the second cluster at Mongkos resulted from social movements and then spread among family members and social contacts of the positive cases.

“Of the 70 individuals, who were screened, 22 including the index case tested positive, 34 were negative while 14 are still awaiting laboratory results,” it added.

The committee said all positive cases were admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in the Serian district.

SDMC said the Tebakang Dayak cluster was also a community cluster, involving a residential settlement in the Ntagen Asai zone of Kampung Tebakang Dayak, Serian.

“Of the 95 people who were screened, 18 including the index case tested positive, 52 were negative while 25 are still awaiting laboratory results,” it added.

All positive cases were admitted to the PKRC in the Serian district for isolation and further treatment.

The committee said the Sungai Banun cluster was a community cluster involving a longhouse under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Skim B, Sungai Banun, Meradong.

“The cluster stemmed from social interactions and close contacts among the residents of the longhouse. Of the 86 people who were screened,   20 including the index case tested positive, 64 were negative while two are still awaiting laboratory results,” it revealed.

The committee said all positive cases were admitted to the Sarikei Hospital and the PKRC in the Sarikei district.

The Sarawak Health Department also declared the end of the Nanga Tajam cluster in Selangau after no new cases linked to this cluster were reported in the last 28 days.

SDMC also said that of the 95 active clusters in the state, 15 recorded 141 additional cases today (Saturday).
