Three new deaths bring toll to 252

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded three new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (May 23), bringing the state’s death toll to 252.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement, said the 250th death was Case 35,280, a 73-year-old local woman who was treated at Bintulu Hospital for breathing difficulties.

“The case was found symptomatic with fever, body fatigue and loss of appetite in the past three days. A reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) test on May 9 confirmed she was Covid-19 positive.

“Her health condition worsened and she passed away on Friday (May 21). The woman had high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney disease,” SDMC said.

The 251st death was Case 32,016, a 64-year-old local man who was admitted to the low-risk treatment centre (PKRC) after he was confirmed Covid-19 positive on May 1 from screening of symptomatic individuals.

“Symptomatic with diarrhoea, he was later referred to Sibu Hospital for further treatment.

“His health condition deteriorated and he passed away on Saturday (May 22). He had high blood pressure,” SDMC added.

The 252nd death was Case 28,525, a 68-year-old local man treated at Sibu Hospital.

“He was symptomatic with cough, body fatigue and loss of appetite in the past week. The rT-PCR test taken on Apr 25 confirmed he was Covid-19 positive.

“His health conditioned worsened and he passed away on Saturday (May 22). He had diabetes, dyslipidaemia, chronic obstructive lung disease and chronic kidney disease,” SDMC said.
