Three new fatalities recorded

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded three new Covid-19 fatalities today, bringing the number of deaths to 65.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement, said Kuching, Bintulu and Sibu recorded one death respectively.

“The state’s 63rd death is case 3,241 who was a 63-year-old local male from the Simunjan district. He was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital due to breathing difficulties.

“A reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (rt-PCR) test was conducted on him on Jan 22 and he was found positive after having close contact with a positive individual. His health condition worsened and he passed away on Tuesday,” it said.

It also said that the victim was from the Indah Riang Cluster and he had comorbid high blood pressure, heart disease as well as dyslipidemia.

As for the 64th death, SDMC said the victim was a 74-year-old local male who was admitted to Bintulu Hospital due to breathing difficulties.

Case 6,833 was from Dalat district, Mukah and he was found positive after an rt-PCR test on Feb 15. His health condition deteriorated and he passed away today.

The victim also had comorbidities such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney failure.

SDMC said that the state’s 65th death involved the Geronggang Cluster and he was found unconscious at an elderly care centre.

“Case 6,662 was a 73-year-old local male who was found unconscious at a care centre and was taken to Sibu Hospital. An rt-PCR test was conducted on Feb 13 and he was found positive the next day.

“The victim passed away on Feb 14. He had comorbid high blood pressure,” it added.

SDMC has extended its condolences to the family members of the victims.
