MUKAH: Three non-Muslim religious bodies received cheques for a total of RM900,000 from Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) in the Chief Minister’s Department here.

Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo handed over the cheques last Friday (Sept 4) to representatives of Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM), Nanga Dijih; Mukah Methodist Church; and Mukah Buddhist Temple respectively.

The BEM, which received RM100,00 will use the fund to construct a church and road, while Mukah Buddhist Association will utilise the RM300,000 it received to build a three-storey Buddhist Temple, and Mukah Methodist Church will make use of the RM500,000 aid to finance the construction of a three-storey multipurpose building.

Yussibnosh said the recipients were part of a total of 298 applications statewide approved under the first phase by the Sarawak government for this year, while the second phase was being processed.

“The total aid statewide amounted to RM38.747 million,” he said at the simple handover of cheques ceremony at Tellian State Constituency Service Centre here.
