Three shooting suspects charged in court

MIRI: The three suspects involved in a shooting and robbery incident in Taman Jelita on May 16 were produced and charged at two Magistrate’s Courts here yesterday morning.

The first accused, Su Seng Kwang, 50, was charged on two counts.

On the first count, Su was charged under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for discharging a firearm with the intention to cause death or hurt to a policeman Corporal William Bell Jol.

On the second count, he was charged under Section 8 of the same act for unlawful possession of a firearm, a Steyr 9MM pistol.

Su was not represented by a defence counsel when produced in court yesterday.

The second accused, Yap Thiam Huat, 35, was charged under Section 3A of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 as an accomplice in the discharge of a firearm.

Yap was represented by his defence counsel Ranbir Singh.

The third accused, Rosemore Mohamed Saripeng, 45, was charged under Section 216A of the Penal Code for harbouring robbers or gang-robbers.

Rosemore was alleged to have helped another suspect Ng Cheng Hui who is still at large.

Rosemore was represented by his defence counsel Firdaus Morshidi.

Magistrate Md Syafique Md Hilmie granted a bail of RM7,000 with two local sureties to the third accused.

All the three accused pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad and Magistrate Md Syafique Md Hilmie.

They will be produced for further mention of the case on June 28.

The first and second accused were later taken to Lambir Prison while waiting for further mention of the case.
