SIBU: A 20-year-old man known as Mohd Rhaziq Mazlan was killed in a road accident that occurred at Tun Abang Haji Openg Road on Sunday night.

Sibu District Police chief ACP Zailanni Amit confirmed the accident and said it occurred at 9.30pm that evening.  

He told reporters that the accident happened when a pickup vehicle moving from Delta traffic light heading to town centre lost control and went down to the opposite lane and violated the car (Proton Sage Flx) which was carrying the victim.

“Due to the violation impact, the front passenger (Mohd Rhaziq Mazlan) died while being rushed to Sibu Hospital.” 

“The pickup vehicle driver was arrested under Section 112 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for allegedly committing an offence under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

Meanwhile, ten fire-fighters from Sibu Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the location of the accident after receiving an emergency call at 9.44pm on Sunday night.

 According to the fire fighting chief who participated in the rescue operation, upon arrival at the accident scene, it was found that the accident involved three vehicles namely pickup, Proton Sage Flx, and Proton Persona and there were three victims in Proton Saga Flx.

The fire-fighters removed three men who were trapped and then handed over to ambulances, EMRS unit and Civil Defence Force (APM) to Sibu Hospital.
