KUCHING: The second movement control order (MCO) in Sarawak comes into force for 14 days from May 29 to June 11.

According to standard operating procedures (SOPs), all economic sectors are not allowed to operate during the MCO   except for those listed as essential services.

Chairman of the State Disaster Management Committee, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said the MCO had to be implemented because of the worsening Covid-19 situation and concerns over cases linked to Variants of Concern that have been detected in Sarawak recently.

The public was delighted with the state government’s decision and hoped that the number of cases in Sarawak would drop soon.

I hope that with the implementation of the MCO, the number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak will be reduced and that we can all resume our normal lives eventually. But we must remember to always follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) no matter where we are.

Whatever Sarawak decides, I will follow because I believe it is for the safety and health of people. Some people, particularly   hawkers and petty traders, may experience loss of household income or even no income at all from the MCO. But the assistance given by the government surely this will come in handy.

I hope that the MCO will help improve our current Covid-19 situation. If the number of cases remains high, I believe the best option is to implement a total lockdown like in Malaya and Sabah. I also hope everyone will adhere to the SOPs given, especially for the upcoming Gawai.

The implementation of the MCO is now the best choice. I hope the public, particularly those who will be celebrating Gawai, will follow the SOPs provided. Together, we can reduce the number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

I hope that the Covid-19 cases in Sarawak will reduced in the next two weeks.  I am grateful that the MCO has been implemented. Although it may have an impact on the traders and petty hawkers, the lives of people are more important. As long as the public follows the SOPs, I think we can together reduce the Covid-19 cases.

I hope we will see positive results from the implementation of the MCO, particularly in the number of cases across Sarawak.  Most importantly, I hope Sarawakians, especially those who will be celebrating Gawai, will follow the SOPs provided. Let us all be cautious and prioritise our health and safety during these critical times.
