KUCHING: The Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) has praised the Education Ministry for continuing to provide allowance for trainee teachers.
STU president Macky Joseph expressed his thanks to the government for continuing to give trainee teachers the monthly allowance of RM430 and a yearly travel allowance of RM500.
“The allowance given will definitely reduce the financial burden faced by both the trainees and their parents,” he told New Sarawak Tribune here yesterday.
The trainees had a host of expenses to take care of such as buying their own food, printing coursework and assignments.
“Their expenses include buying materials to produce teaching aids for their assignments, practicum as well as internship.”
Macky reminded the trainees to manage their money wisely.
Last Saturday, the Education Ministry announced the allowance was the continuation of the previous Barisan Nasional government’s policy, in which the welfare of trainee teachers are taken care of.
