KUCHING: Feedback received from the medical consultant expert team from China on the state’s handling of Covid-19 at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) has been very reassuring, says Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said that two of the specialists who visited SGH had commented that whatever had been done there had been done well, despite some supply chain limitations.

“(They said the personnel there) are doing a very good job and that they are very meticulous – that is very reassuring,” he said at the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Covid-19 daily update press conference yesterday.

He said the team had made a courtesy call on Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas earlier yesterday and contributed 30,000 face masks consisting of three types – N95 face masks, surgical face masks, and nursing face masks.

“They also gave us 2,500 goggles for eye protection,” he said, expressing gratitude for this contribution and their sincerity in sharing with the state what they had learnt on the front lines in China.

He noted that besides sharing their knowledge, they were also reciprocating the state and nation’s support which had been given when China was in the midst of the pandemic.

Dr Sim said that on Monday, about eight hours of teleconferencing had been done with the China specialists and four different groups, with ‘fruitful results’.

“The first group was private practitioners, including private hospitals, second was our Covid-19 hospital in Sarawak, third was our researchers, and fourth was to do with traditional Chinese medicines,” he said.
