Timbers seized, factory owners, worker detained

GOF Lanang and GOF Sri Aman and SPRM had make a raided to the wood factories in three separated locations suspected of operating illegally and the seizure value in the three raids was amounting to RM128,800.00.

SIBU: The General Operations Force (GOF) Lanang and GOF Sri Aman and SPRM raided wood factories in three separated locations, making seizures valued at RM128,800.

Deputy Commanding Officer of GOF Battalion 10 Camp in Lanang, Friediel Nyambong, said the Jan 29 raids were conducted following information received of suspected illegal operation around Maludam and Beladin.

“The first raid was carried out at 11.45am at a timber mill in the Sungai Pedada, Maludam and various types of equipment for processing wood and about 615 pieces of various timbers weighing approximately six tons and 14 logs were seized.

“Three employees and one factory owner were arrested,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

In the second raid at 12.30pm, enforcers went to a wood factory at Triso Road, Maludam and 550 pieces of various timbers weighing about 12 tonnes and 14 logs were seized.

The factory owner was arrested.

The third raid took place at 2.45pm at a wood factory at Beladin-Maludam Road, he said, adding about 450 pieces of various timbers weighing approximately 18 tons were seized.

He said four factory workers were detained.

All the seizures and arrests are now with the Sarawak Forestry Department of Sri Aman for further investigation, he added.
