Not so long ago, I was eagerly looking forward to the Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya celebrations. Now, like the water under the bridge, they have flowed past and will not return until next year.

Indeed, time and tide wait for no man.

During this year’s Hari Raya celebrations, I noticed that some of the national television stations had been busy playing Hari Raya songs by the late popular singer, Sudirman Haji Arshad.

Though he is long gone, many fans still remember him, thanks to the publicity given to his songs by the TV stations. Though the sound of his voice may make his family members and fans cry, many of his happy songs, I am sure, bring smiles to his loyal fans.

Besides Sudirman, we also remember many famous world singers like the late Elvis Presley and Jim Reeves through their songs.

It is indeed blessed to be a singer much adored by the public, like Taylor Swift and Adele.

With July already here and August fast approaching, I am looking forward to hearing lots of patriotic National Day songs on the TV and radio. Soon, National Day flags will be on sale in many shops and adorning the streets and buildings of Kuching.

After the National Day, the next public holidays for me to look forward to are the Christmas holidays. Christmas, of course, is synonymous with Father Christmas, the snow man, jingle bell and delicious fruit cakes.

In the wink of an eye after Christmas, we will be welcoming a brand new year – 2018.

With more or less five months to go before we welcome 2018, it is perhaps time for us to find out whether we have achieved any of our goals for this year. Have we kept our New Year resolutions? Do we still have time to get our New Year resolutions back on track?

One of my New Year resolutions was to eat more healthy meals. Looking back so far, I think i have succeeded in doing so. I am now eating more vegetables and fruits – just as the doctor advised.

Whenever I tune on the radio in the car, I hear the deejays talking about the Malaysian Healthy Plate model and advising listeners to follow it.

The Healthy Plate model shows what to eat in the right amounts for each meal. According to the model, you fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables, a quarter with whole-grains and a quarter with meat and others.

Another of my New Year resolutions was to relax and enjoy life more. Now, after a hard day’s work, I reward myself by watching movies and dramas on my TV screen. It is my way of de-stressing.

Last but not least, another of my New Year resolutions is to travel more. I have not done any travelling so far this year. But I will definitely travel when I take my annual leave this week. I am looking forward to meeting my youngest sister and catching up with her,

Time and tide indeed wait for no man, my friends. With five more months to go before the start of a brand new year, we all have ample time to make some differences, albeit small, to our own individual lives and make 2017 memorable. Start now if you haven’t, my friends.
