KUCHING: Unity government is about unity among all political parties, said Professor Madya Dr Novel Lyndon.

The political analyst pointed out that unity government was suggested by the King and Rulers Council and all political parties needed to put aside their differences and move forward.

“So, all political parties must accept this order. However, this does not mean that parliamentarians cannot speak in parliament.

“They can still be in the opposition but their function is not to represent the party but to represent the people of all political parties,” he said when asked by New Sarawak Tribune yesterday (Nov 25).

The lecturer from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia said that a unity government was an elected government based on a combination of the three main parties which are Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), and other parties.

“I expect this government to focus on the reorganisation of the economic cake between the peninsula and Borneo, the growth of the national economyand the unity of multicultural and multi-ethnic races in our country.

“Of course, there are pros and cons, but the most important thing is to move forward and focus on economic growth and the country’s political stability,” he stressed.

Novel pointed out that the political parties can work as a team regardless of party agenda or ideology.

“The downside is that party manifestos are difficult to implement due to differences in manifestos between parties.

“At the same time, the people’s expectations are very high for all the political parties.

“The question now is which manifesto should be used in governing the country? PH, BN, or GPS manifesto?” he questioned.
